Fabienne Verdier at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence 2017, 3 – 22 July 2017

Fabienne Verdier has been invited to compose a visual partita for the 2017 edition of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, as well as set up a temporary studio in the 17th century Chapelle de la Visitation in early July.

Verdier will work with four emerging chamber music quartets from the Académie Européenne de Musique de Chambre over two weeks. Having designed a giant transparent table to paint on vertically, four cameras will capture the emergence of pictorial compositions from below. Completely surrounded by these projected images, the musicians will interact with the moving forms. The aim of the studio is to study the interweaving energies of the painted line with those of each musician, each learning from the experience.

In support of the Festival d’Aix, Waddington Custot has produced two limited edition prints, ‘Nuit d’Opéra à Aix’ (2017). All proceeds from the print sale will be donated to the Festival in recognition of its important role in commissioning new Opera productions.
